James Thomas Timberlake, the son of Will Gilbert and Annie Louise Timberlake was born on September 12, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
James graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. He worked as a machine operator and in his later years in housekeeping at Allison Transmission retiring in 2009 after forty-one years of service. He served his country faithfully during a tour of duty in Vietnam. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.
James was united in matrimony to Beverly Ann Grigley in 1972. Their union was blessed with two daughters and two sons. James was a hard worker and great provider who was devoted to his family. To his children, Daddy taught us many life lessons that go beyond just providing for your family. This includes staying connected with your loved ones, being transparent, so there's no doubt in what you mean, and how to persevere and endure even in the toughest moments. We know Daddy had a lot of those. We will continue to look out and take care of each other as you have shown us that strength and love is measured in so many different ways.
James was a faithful member of Westside Missionary Baptist Church serving on the Helps Ministry, singing in the choir, and his "one man" water ministry. He professed his hope in Christ and was baptized. This faith was instrumental in helping him overcome years of alcohol addiction and being a testament to others.
James loved being surrounded by his family and friends, sharing laughs and conversations with all those he encountered. He loved cooking his famous greens at social gatherings. He never met a stranger, willing to talk or help anyone, and loved opening up his home to fellowship with others. He was a generous, supportive, encouraging grandad to all his grandchildren motivating them with his grandfatherly advice. Many who knew him could attest to his love of going to the grocery store, spending hours there made him happy to have a steady supply of things at home.
As an avid sports fan, he loved cheering on the home teams as a proud alumni of Attucks, as well as rooting on the Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Colts.
James departed this life at the age of seventy-four years. He was preceded in death by both his parents, Will Gilbert Timberlake and Annie Louise Timberlake; and his sister, Mary Norton.
He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife, Beverly Ann Timberlake; daughters, Kerrie Smith (Donald), and Karmen Creel (Stephen); sons, James Timberlake Jr., and Jonathan Timberlake (Virginia); eight grandchildren, Nathaniel Henry Russell IV, Kamrie Russell, Jonathan Timberlake Jr., Elijah Creel, Alexandra Creel, Jeremiah Timberlake, Janiyah Timberlake and Jenesis Timberlake; one brother, Wilbert Timberlake Sr.; sisters, Barbara Germany, Jacqueline Gunn (John), Shirley Robinson (Charles), Selina Paschall (James), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
