James Leon Jackson was born on April 25, 1940, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Walter Jackson and Josephine Montgomery. He received his education through the Indianapolis Public School System. James was a “Jack of all trades”, and he was universally beloved. His sisters affectionately called him “Brother” when he was up to something. Family and friends called him “Bojack”.
James lived a remarkable life. As the eldest of our family, spanning six generations, he held his family in the highest regard. He frequently spoke about us, expressing his great pride.
James enjoyed spending time outdoors, listening to music, and watching sports. He was particularly fond of pulling tickets or simply making someone’s day. As he aged, he developed a passion for hats.
James often mentioned his blue eyes and his Indian heritage. He also took great pride in his accomplishments. During his final days, he earned the title, “Popz”, becoming one of the eldest residents at his place of residence. He relished the opportunity to stroll through the hallways, and he embraced his beloved persona as Bojack.
James Leon Jackson departed this earthly life on August 21, 2025, at the age of eighty-five years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Jackson and Josephine Montgomery; his sisters, Lawanna Smith, Ora Lee Jenkins, Sally Montgomery, Ann Carson and Catherine Pettis; his nephew, Robert Jackson, and great-nephews, Raymond Smith and James Smith.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory a son, Thomas Jackson; niece, Marlisa Gee (Smith), Anthony Smith Morris Smith, and a host of nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
