JACALYN DENISE FRANKLIN

Jacalyn “Jackie” Denise Owens Franklin was born on October 11, 1948, to mother, E. Pearl Scoggins Owens and father, Ira E. Owens Jr. She attended grade school at IPS #39 and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. She then went to work at Wasson’s Department Store as a secretary to the Assistant Manager. She began working at General Hospital (formerly Wishard, now known as Eskenazi Hospital) in 1976 and retired in 2008.

Jackie met the love of her life, Willie Earl, in 1967 and they were inseparable ever since. Earl and Jackie, also affectionately known as “E & J”, got married on August 19, 1972. Whenever you saw Jackie, you were most likely to see Earl. They would have two children, Bryan K. and Danielle. They also had a second chance at parenting when they legally adopted three of their grandchildren Bryan A., Ivana, and Briauna.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether she was thrifting for hidden treasures, browsing the shops, or spending time in the kitchen cooking meals made with love. Spending quiet moments coloring or relaxing while watching television brought her peace, and her deep love of animals reflected the kindness and gentleness of her heart. She especially enjoyed being able to gather for brunch/lunch dates with former co-workers/friends from Wishard Hospital. She loved listening to music, traveling for family reunions and just having a good time laughing and talking with family and friends. She will be remembered for the warmth she shared and the beautiful way she appreciated life’s little blessings.

Jackie professed her faith for Jesus Christ at a young age and then again in 2015. Jackie departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 23rd, with family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Willie Earl, mother, E. Pearl Owens, father, Ira E. Owens Jr, sisters, Teresa Owens, and Yvonne “Bonnie” Smith, brother, Bobby Trent Owens, and great-granddaughter Amelia Carlisle.

Jackie leaves to cherish her memory, son, Bryan K. Owens, daughter Danielle Franklin; grandchildren Bryan A. Franklin, Ivana A. Carlisle (Jeff), Briauna L. Franklin, Daniel Goggans (Taylor), Malcolm C. Goggans, and Nicholas E. Rhodes; great-grandchildren, Anyla F. Franklin, Christian Howard, Sha’Brya A.M. Franklin, and Dejuan “DJ” Burrus; siblings, Walter K. Owens, Ira E. Owens III (Mary), and Van Keith Owens (Crystal). Sisters-in-love, Donzella Malone (William, Sr.). Sandra Bailey, and Linda Williams. First cousins that were more like siblings to her, she talked with them daily, Diane and Johnny. She treasured a special bond with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and life long friends.
