Inez Marie Powell was born November 16,1960, to Kato Powell, III and Hazel Woodford Williams. Inez grew up in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She expressed a belief in Christ and was baptized at an early age.
Inez was a student in the Indianapolis Public School System, where she attended Arsenal Technical High School. At the age of sixty, she earned her baccalaureate degree in Theology from Martin University.
Inez worked security until her health would no longer permit her to do so. Following her departure from working security she was employed in day care. Although Inez didn’t have any biological children, she acted as a surrogate to all her nieces and nephews. Honestly, she tried to play mother to everyone.
In her twenties Inez was the life of the party. She would often say the party didn’t begin until she arrived. She loved to fellowship with family. She claimed that she was the best cards player in the family. As Inez grew older, she became passionate about spreading the good news of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When you spoke with Inez about issues of the day she would go to scripture and remark, “I just called to talk but you’re going make me preach.” She was always ready to pray with you. When the chaplain visited Inez in the hospital to offer his services, she would witness to him.
Inez transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father on October 3, 2025, at the age of 64 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kato Powell, III and Hazel Woodford Williams; siblings, James L. Woodford, Rev Simpson Elliott, Edmund Powell, Carl T. Williams, Jr., Becky Powell-Lewis, Barbara Al-Aswad, Ercie Abel and Kato R. Powell, IV.
Inez will be greatly missed. She leaves to cherish her memories her goddaughters, Blessin Armour and Andrea Smith; sisters, Helen Johnson and Hazel Powell-Aygeman; brothers, John A. Williams and Jerome O. Williams (Karen), a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and a host of other family member and friends.
