Hiawatha Mosley was born July 24, 1924, in Springfield, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Dallas Sweeney and Rosa Bell Sweeney. Hiawatha was educated in the Tennessee Public School system.
Hiawatha moved to Indianapolis, IN with her parents in 1939. Hiawatha had a daughter, Janice Sweeney, and later married James Mosley. To that union was born a son, Phillip B. Mosley. Hiawatha and James were owners of Charm Dry Cleaners located at 2102 North Harding Street from 1959 until the early 70’s. Hiawatha was also employed at Indiana Bell and Western Electric.
Hiawatha professed her love of Christ at an early age. She
was a member of Church of Christ while in Springfield, TN. In Indianapolis, IN Hiawatha was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Indianapolis. Around 2007, Hiawatha transferred membership to Light of the World Christian Church.
Hiawatha enjoyed music of all kinds, traveling, and socializing with friends. Hiawatha died on April 29, 2023, at the age of 98 years, 9 months, and 27 days to date. Hiawatha was a resident of Alpha Home at the time of her death.
Hiawatha was preceded in death by her husband (James Mosley), brother (Lafayette Sweeney), daughter (Janice Sweeney) and son (Phillip Mosley).
Hiawatha leaves to cherish her memory, niece (Deborah Sweeney-Vaden), great nieces (Shantell Shelton and Sharon Rouser). She also leaves to cherish her memory three great nieces, 2 great nephews, 3 great, great nieces and numerous cousins.
