HAROLD BROWN Obituary

Harold was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 16, 1936, to Moses and Orelia Brown. Harold attended public schools in New Orleans and graduated from high school in 1954.

In 1959 Harold was drafted by the U.S. Amy and was transferred to Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana. After serving two years in the army as a Military Policeman, he was Honorably Discharged. While serving in the military he met Gloria Temple and they married on April 28, 1962.  During his marriage to Gloria, they raised three sons, Jeffery, Steven and Kevin. Harold worked at Eli Lilly for 30 years and retired in 1993. After his retirement he served in the community delivering Meals on Wheels providing meals to the sick and shut in.

Harold was a member of Holy Angeles Church for many years where he served as an usher. Harold readily assisted with church events, cooking fish for Friday fish fries during Lent and grilling for the Soul Food Festival.

Harold was a dedicated sports enthusiast. He spent many years coaching football and basketball for his sons’ teams.  Harold played softball for Bells Prescriptions and excelled as a shortstop. Passionate about golf, Harold and several friends established the Top flight Golf Club, which fostered numerous weekend trips within Indiana and beyond for Harold, Gloria, and their fellow golfers. During his forty-year marriage to Gloria, they traveled extensively, visiting many destinations across the globe.

Harold cherished his family, and loved spending time with them. Harold was always present for his grandchildren’s sporting events and enjoyed cheering them on.

Harold was immensely thoughtful and kind, especially to seniors and kids. It seemed that everybody in Indianapolis, knew him, and anyone who met him couldn’t help but love him. Most importantly, Harold was a man loved and treasured by his family. He will truly be missed.

Harold departed his life on February 2, 2026, at the age of 89. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Moses and Orelia Brown, his sisters, Rosanna Williams, Orelia Young, Elizabeth Terry, his brothers, Alfred Dorsey, Stanley G. Brown Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his sister, Jewel Johnson; three sons, Jeffery Brown, Steven Brown (Natalie), and Kevin Brown (Angelia), seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.
