Glenda was born on July 14, 1951, to Hosie L Brownlow and Willie Brownlow Sr. in Belzoni, Mississippi. She relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1959. She lived a full life, filled with love, laughter, and family.
Glenda graduated from Crispus Attacks High School in 1971 and went on to pursue her Associate’s Degree in Business and Accounting where she completed and graduated from Clark College.
Glenda spent the better of twenty years doing payroll and various office work for Flanner House where she worked as the Office Manager.
Glenda was a unique individual, in a class of her own. She gave absolutely the best hugs you could imagine and gave them freely and often. Truly a free spirit, who loved sweets just as much as she was a sweet and kind person who would tell you off one minute and love on you the next. One way Glenda expressed her love was to provide fresh, homemade sweets at all the family events. She truly was the baker in the family. Glenda was authentically Glenda and to know her was to love her.
From a previous union in the year 1969, Glenda gave birth to her one and only child Lanone D. Braham. Lanone, who was affectionately called “Nonnie” was an amazing daughter to Glenda for her entire time here on earth.
In April of 1989, Glenda reconnected with James Caruthers, and he quickly became her soulmate. In September of 1989 he swept the Firecracker off her feet, and they became one and united in marriage.
After losing her only child in 2008, she united with Emmanuel Christian Fellowship Center Church where Nonnie was already a member. Glenda remained a dedicated member until her untimely passing.
Glenda departed this earthly life on August 29, 2023 at the age of seventy-two years old. Glenda was preceded in death by her mother, Hosie L. Brownlow; father, Willie Brownlow Sr.; daughter, Lanone D. Braham; granddaughter, Imani Mayfield; brothers, Frank, Wydell and Benjamin Brownlow; and a sister, Violetta Hall.
Glenda leaves to cherish and honor her memory her loving husband of 34 years, James Caruthers; sisters, Deborah, Linda (David), Carrie, Carolyn (Paul), and Melanie (Byron), brothers, Willie Jr. and Dayvid. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, family, and friends. The Family would also like to give special acknowledgement to Glenda’s best friend of over 50 years, Alice Jones.
