Brief Sketch of Life

Gertrude Evelyn Jones affectionately known as “Trudy” was born January 1, 1943, in Charleston, West Virginia to Thurston Winston and Johnsy M. Brew.

Gertrude graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1962.

Gertrude was united in Holy Matrimony to Willie Calvin Jones on June 29, 1963 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. They enjoyed sixty years of marital bliss.

Gertrude and Willie Jones were blessed with four sons, Robert, Calvin, Thurston, and Armound Jones.

Gertrude enjoyed taking care of her family and was an avid cook. As a loving housewife, she exceeded all of her duties. She loved to read and was always readily available to lend a listening ear. Her friends and family remember her for creating a nurturing environment that welcomed everyone.

Gertrude Jones departed this earthly life for her heavenly home on Monday, September 4, 2023 at the age of eighty years young. She was preceded in death by her father, Thurston Winston; mother, Johnsy M. Brew, and her sister, DeAndra McLaurine; and nephew, LaTarance McLauriune

Gertrude leaves to cherish her precious memory her husband, Willie C. Jones; sons, Robert L. Jones (Deborah), Calvin L. Jones (Tonya), Thurston W. Jones (Maurica), and Armound E. Jones (Angie); brother, Jerome William; sister, DaVonna Patterson; grandchildren, Robert Jr., DeAndre, Michael, Brandon, Annalisa, Calvin Jr., Talina,  Tyrayah, Tiana, Thurston Jr., and Armounti; seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
