GEORGIA MCCHRISTON Obituary

Georgia entered this world on July 24,1930 in Mellwood, Arkansas to parents, Eleanor and Eddie Jackson. She was raised by her paternal grandparents, George and Perine Jackson and began her life as a sharecropper in the fields of Arkansas.

Georgia was an avid learner and would later be known within her community for her wisdom and passion for teaching, though she wasn’t afforded many traditional educational opportunities. She completed her elementary schooling at Elizabeth School in Arkansas before becoming a wife in 1943 and embarking on the journey of motherhood in 1944.

Having raised 10 children, Georgia’s life was full of lessons that can’t be gained in a classroom. Her first marriage gave her the gift of 3 daughters and the knowledge that she no longer wished to work as a sharecropper, which she had been her entire life. She went on to have a second marriage that gave her 5 more daughters and 2 sons. The end of this marriage brought with it an end to her work as a field laborer.

She gathered her children and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1967, where she began a life of service and started working as a healthcare aide. This work leveraged the experiences she had working in the homes of others and caring for the ailing. She attended church at Eastern Star, where she was able to continue her pursuit of biblical knowledge and grow her relationship with the Lord. While living in Indianapolis, she was able to take a test at Indiana University which granted her college credit for her life experience.

Her journey would then take her to Kokomo, Indiana where she would work at Quino Press and meet her third and final husband. When that marriage ended, she returned to Indianapolis where she went on to become a food stamps case worker, helping to provide vital resources for her community.

She later ventured to Oceanside, California and returned to being a healthcare aide, where she built lifelong friendships within her role and became an active member of her church, St. John. During this time, she discovered her love of teaching and became a Sunday School teacher. She also joined the Mother’s Board, where she served the church through outreach and evangelistic events. She would also take on the new challenge of returning to motherhood in caring for her youngest granddaughter, Georgia Maya.

In 2004, she moved back to Indianapolis, where she continued to follow her passion of teaching as an active member of Mt. Helm where she became a Sunday School teacher before moving on to becoming the Sunday School Superintendent. She left a lasting impact on any room that she entered and was known for her love of service and dedication. She would actively work to spread the message of the Lord in any way that she could and would search out opportunities to engage others in the study of the Bible through outreach.

On the morning of November 5, 2025, Georgia passed away peacefully at home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and Eddie Jackson; sister, Elizabeth Jackson; and daughters, Delphia McChristion and Marnette Walker. She is survived by her remaining children: Geraldine Young, Patricia Holmes Murry, Mary Johnson, Anita Toby, Boyd McChristion, Opereed McChristion, Brenda Kinnery, Felecia McChristion, and Georgia Maya McChristion, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
