GEORGELLA WATSON Obituary

Georgella Watson, another angel, was called home on September 10, 2025, at the awesome age of 91 years.  Born on November 1, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ollie (Oscar) and Lucille Valentine.  Georgella was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. She was married to Alfred Jones, who passed away, and she later became the wife of Kenneth Watson, whom she deeply loved. Kenneth preceded her in death.  She was a strong example of a Christian mother who devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.

Georgella graduated from Crispus Attucks High School and shared her pride for the school. She did not hesitate to send a strong message to her family that education was important. Talking about her times with her husband, Kenneth, always brought fond memories because she would often state that he was a “good person.” She is survived by her sons, Nathaniel Jones (Cynthia) and Steven Jones (Debra); daughters, Brenda Crayton (William), Sharon Jones, and Charlene Thomas, and stepsons, Troy and Ricky Watson. Also, Georgella is survived by her sister, Joan Valentine, and brother, Charles Valentine.  Georgella was preceded in death by her daughter, Rena Jones; son, Anthony Jones; stepson, Kenneth Watson, Jr., and brothers, Robert Lee Valentine, James “Jimmy: Valentine, Oscar Valentine, Jr., and Rudolph Valentine.

Georgella thoroughly enjoyed her family, especially her 60 plus grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always the happiest when the family would host an event bringing them all together.  She received the nickname of “Hallie Berry” because of her youthful appearance, classy style for dressing, and sheer elegance.  There were so many grandchildren she would often say, “I cannot remember all their names, but I can tell that they are one of mine”. These were the exact words her father used to say about his grandchildren when he was living.

Georgella accepted Christ early and was baptized at First Baptist Church and attended Mount Paran Baptist before joining Second Christian Church (that was renamed the Light of the World Christian Church).  There she became active with the Usher Board. She thoroughly enjoyed this Christian experience under the strong leadership of Bishop T. Garrott Benjamin, Jr., Senior Pastor.

Georgella worked several different jobs and long hours to ensure that her children had what they needed.  She worked as an elevator operator for L. S. Ayres, a job where the operators had to have a certain appearance in order to be hired. Later, she worked at Western Electric, a job that paid well with great benefits. Georgella was involved in several social clubs such as the “DO Nothings”, Nite Lifers Club and the Royalettes Club.  She enjoyed a vast number of social events and having fun which included traveling. She was an original member of the modeling troupe of Indianapolis called the Guys and Dolls. and participated in several local Fashion Shows due to her excellent style and impeccable attire.
