GABRIEL SMITH Obituary

Gabriel William Charles Smith was born on July 12, 1988 in Indianapolis, Indiana weighing in at a mighty 2 lbs 2 oz to Ms. Dorothea Smith who preceded him in death.  Mark Townsend, known as “Uncle Mark” held a special place in Gabriel’s life providing guidance and support throughout his formative years.

Affectionately known as “Gabe” by family and friends, Gabriel was educated in the Pike Township School system where he successfully completed his Certificate of Completion. Well known for his affectionate, caring and loving personality, Gab would often give out loving hugs in every room he entered.  Gabe attended Project Will, and Outside the Box Day programs over the years where he found purpose and a sense of belonging.

Gabe possessed a vivid imagination and a creative spirit.  He enjoyed developing short stories titled “The Smith Kids,” through which he shared joy and valuable lessons with others.  His room, affectionately known as “Smith Laboratory,” served as a dedicated private space for creative expression where he showcased his talents.

Gabe found happiness in life’s simple pleasures such as weekly visits to the gas station, where he carefully prepared his infamous “Suicide Drink”.  He especially enjoyed his favorite snack, Jalapeño Cheetos!  A small pleasure that never failed to bring Gabe immense joy.  He eagerly anticipated monthly trips to Goodwill, often searching for unique treasures to complete his various projects.  These moments of enjoyment reflected his childlike wonder and appreciation for life’s everyday blessings.  Gabe enjoyed NCIS, Madea shows, various cartoons, and had amassed a huge collection of DVDs that were on his “repeat watch” list.  Small nature walks and the love of rock findings were priority on his activity list.  His all-time favorite artist, The Weekend was among his playlists of music.  Gabe enjoyed trips to his brother’s house sharing make believe play with his nephews.  Along with his beloved stuffed animals, Panda and Simba, who were symbols of love, security, and friendship, always present in his life providing a sense of peace and comfort.

On December 20, 2025, our precious Gabe was called home.  He was 37 years old.  He was preceded in death by his mother, uncle, James Moore and aunt, Valerie Moore.

He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Jaymison Smith (Malika); sister, Faith Smith of Colorado; nephews, Ahmad, Achilles, and Jaxon Smith; uncles, Mark Townsend and Steven Rouse of Arizona; aunt, Claudette Cooper; caregiver, Danielle Graham; and a host of other relatives, and friends.

Gabe was cherished by a large circle of extended family, The Altruist Group, Project Will and Outside the Box who loved him dearly.  Gabe will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those he touched.
