Fredrick Thomas Williams Sr., affectionately known as “Fred,” passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2025, surrounded by family and love in Tampa, Florida.
Fredrick was a proud native of Indianapolis, Indiana, and a lifelong public servant. He retired from the Social Security Administration after over 40 years of dedicated federal service. A man of wisdom, humor, and integrity, Fredrick touched countless lives with his leadership and warm presence.
He was a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., having crossed through the Alpha Zeta Chapter at Indiana State University, a milestone that brought him immense pride. To his fraternity brothers, he was known as “Friendly Fred”—always uplifting, dependable, and full of brotherly love. To his community, he was affectionately known as “The Tax Man,” a trusted figure who many turned to for guidance and support.
Fredrick was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Effie Williams, and his sister, Maxine Bevins.
He is survived by his loving children, Dr. Fredrick Williams Jr. of Tampa, Florida, and Jennifer Williams of Indianapolis, IN. He also leaves behind his siblings: Charlotte Taylor of Indianapolis, Jeanette Tibbs of Indianapolis, Raymond “Dyre” Williams of Louisville, KY, Rodney Williams and wife of Honolulu, HI, and Donald Williams of Indianapolis
Fredrick is remembered by a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, fraternity brothers, and lifelong friends who cherished his wisdom, strength, and ever-present smile.
His favorite saying was, “Handle your business.” And that, he always did—with love, discipline, and legacy in mind.
