Eugene Stewart Boone, Jr. was born on June 11, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the son of Eugene Stewart Boone, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Lovie Johnson Boone. An integral member of his family, he was granted the appellation, “Dump” in his youth, a moniker he carried throughout his life.
He received his primary and secondary education in the Indianapolis Public School System. Eugene graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1958.
Eugene embarked upon a career in civil service employment following high school. He began working at the United States Postal Service, where he was recognized for uncommon acumen and prowess both as a leader, and also as a team player. After two years, he was drafted to serve in the military of the United States. He heeded the call to the Army, and completed a two-year tour of duty, earning an Honorable Discharge for his meritous service.
In 1962, he returned to tenure at the United States Postal Service. His well-decorated and honored term of duty spanned over thirty-seven years, until retirement in November of 1992 as a Regional Supervisor. In addition to work, he was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Union, Local # 39.
He professed a belief in Christ in his youth. In later years, he attended Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church under the pastorate of the renowned theologian, Rev. Dr. Oliver DeWayne Walker with his life partner, Karen Blake Grundy.
“Dump” was a sports fanatic. He enjoyed various spectator events, including track and field; however, basketball was his favorite. He relaxed by watching movies, and he enjoyed lectures and fine dining. Some of his most cherished moments were spent in the presence of loved ones, and he enjoyed peaceful gatherings.
Eugene Stewart Boone, Jr. departed this earthly life on November 25, 2025, at the age of eighty-six years five months and fifteen days.
He left his life partner, Karen Blake-Grundy to carry out his final instructions.
