Elder Joseph E. Johnson was born on August 11, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the youngest son born to Carlester V. and Zaytor B. Brown Johnson. Both parents and four sisters, Catherine Bonner, May Pearl Montgomery, Elizabeth Dixon, Minnie Smith, and four brothers, Carlester, William, Fred and Robert Johnson, all proceed him in death.
Joseph received his education in Indianapolis Public Schools System. He graduated from Harry E. Wood High School in 1960. Joseph furthered his education in Seminary school earning a degree in Ministry.
Joseph accepted Christ at an early age at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church. Later in his life, in 1965, he united with Grace Apostolic Church under the direction of the late Bishop Morris Golder receiving the baptism of Holy Spirit. Joseph went on to rendering service for the Lord in many different ministries. He taught Sunday School, served as Hall Monitor, worked with the Brotherhood, served in Prison Ministry. Elder Joseph preached at varies churches and events.
On July 25, 1964, Joseph was united in Holy Matrimony to Helen C. (Blair), and to this union lasted 57 years. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Crystal (Johnson) Crayton and Dorian (Johnson) Shirley.
Joseph was employed as a Deputy at the Marion County Sheriff Department for several years. After completing his duties at the Sheriff Department, Joseph went to work for National Starch and Chemical for more than 43 years as a Layman, pipefitter, welder and mechanic. After retiring Joseph decided to drive a cab for two years which gave him another opportunity to share tHe Gospel and spread God’s Word.
Anybody that met this great man of God would love him because he would definitely let you know that he loved you in words and deeds. Joseph had a heart of Gold. Joseph loved his family both blood and not blood you were his brother, sister, daughter, and son. He will be truly missed.
Elder Joseph E. Johnson departed this life on Monday May 16, 2022, at the age of seventy-nine years and three months.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his daughters, Crystal R. Crayton and Dorian L. (Darren) Shirley; four grandsons, Kristopher E. Johnson-Crayton, Brandon L. Crayton, DeShaun M. Shirley, and Desmond S. Shirley; one great-granddaughter, Arielle R. Crayton; sister, Letha Beverly; brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Linda), Johnny and Terry Blair; sisters-in-law, Linda Blair and Beatrice Osborne; Godson and daughter, Robert and Deborah Cooley, and a host of nephews and nieces, and other relatives, Saints and friends from all walks of life..
