ELAINE MCCOY Obituary

A Brief Sketch of Life

Elaine Marie McCoy was born on February 1, 1951, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to the late Ollie McCoy Sr. and Nancy Willis McCoy.

Affectionately known as “Ree” by her family and friends, Elaine relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana, with her family at the age of four. She was educated in the Indianapolis Public School System, attending School 40 and Booker T. Washington School #17. She was a proud 1969 graduate of Crispus Attucks High School. Elaine later attended Indiana University Bloomington, where she pledged Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. in 1974.

Elaine professed her hope in Christ at an early age and joined her family at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

She was employed by USA Track & Field until her retirement in 1996, after more than ten years of dedicated service. While working, Elaine also pursued her creative passion and founded her small business, Wreaths by Ree.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Elaine Marie McCoy went home to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 75. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie, Sr. and Nancy; her brothers, George, Joseph, and Michael; and her sisters, Barbara and Kimberly.  Elaine was deeply devoted to her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Beverly “Joan” Doyle (Caesar) and Theresa Breland (Steve) of Atlanta, Georgia; her brother, Ollie McCoy, Jr.; nieces, Jennifer Chambers, Melissa Collier, Brittany Breland, and Briana McCoy; nephews, Ollie Lee McCoy III, David McCoy, Edward Love, and Steven Breland; her companion, Derrick Jenkins; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.

We close the book, but remember the story.
