Dwayne Bledsoe was born December 4, 1931, to Reverend Charles Bledsoe and wife, Marie Cash Bledsoe, in Indianapolis, Indiana. His parents preceded him in death. His school career began in the Indianapolis Public School Systems, attending #26, #56 and Crispus Attucks High School. He also attended Ivy Tech Vocational school.
Dwayne enlisted in the United States Military Airforce Division. He served for four years in Korea and Japan and earned an Honorable Discharge and numerous medals and accreditations for his meritous tour of duty.
Dwayne continued his civil service employment at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Defense Finance and Accounting Center for many years. He retired from federal service in 1987, employed in the photolithograph section in the Printing Department. Dwayne performed duties as the Equal Employment Opportunity Center representative in his work division.
Early in life, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dwayne confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Eastern Star Baptist Church. He later joined North United Methodist Church, where he helped on the committees to feed and clothe the homeless, helped families in the community and provided transportation for senior citizens to help with daily needs outside of their homes.
Dwayne married the love of his life, Gertrude Richardson, on June 30, 1956. Together they shared 66 years of lasting love. In their marriage they nurtured and loved their children, Jean Bledsoe-Johnson (Russell), Karen Bledsoe, Sue Bledsoe-Barber (Nathan Barber, Jr., deceased), Nathaniel Bledsoe and Mary Posey.
Dwayne was a family leader. He instilled a strong sense of pride and determination in the family. He loved God and worked hard to achieve success. Dwayne loved eating snacks; peanuts and jellybeans, ice cream, cookies, and cake. He enjoyed classic jazz music, dancing, and his favorite hobby was taking his boat out and fishing all day and night.
Dwayne Bledsoe’s earthly journey spanned 91 years 5 months of life. He floated away quietly on Friday, June 2, 2023.
Dwayne Bledsoe cherished his life; his wife who preceded him in death on May 7, 2023, Gertrude; five children, Jean, Karen, Sue, Nathaniel, and Mary. Dwayne Bledsoe also cherished his relationship with only sibling, his sister, Margaret Jean Robinson (Isiah Robinson, Jr., deceased) and niece, Angela Robinson; grandchildren, Anthony Donaldson (Teresa), Whitnii Bledsoe-Flowers (Jason), Rachel Nelson (Shawn) , John Posey, III (Tifany), Nathan Barber, II, Russell Johnson, III, Cory Barber, Kameron Hughes, and ten great-grandchildren; beloved Richardson in-laws, other relatives and lifelong friends.
