DERRICK WOODFORD Obituary

Derrick Woodford was born on September 22, 1957, to the late Mildred Williams Woodford and the late Wade Woodford Sr., in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the seventh child and youngest boy of nine siblings.

Derrick attended Indianapolis Public Schools where he graduated from Shortridge High School. He later attended Ivy Tech and received certification as an Electrician.

Derrick loved sports. As a child he played Little League Baseball where he excelled. He was a Colts fan and enjoyed watching basketball. He was also an avid table tennis player, where earned the name “The Heart.”

Derrick worked various jobs. But his passion was for painting. He was an exceptional Artist. Despite being self-taught, his paintings were sold around Indy and online.

As a teen, Derrick accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was Baptized at Antioch Baptist Church. He would actually walk a mile on Sundays to attend services.

Derrick loved his family and will be genuinely be missed. Derrick departed this life on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandchild, Treona Ingram, two brothers (one stillborn), and three sisters.

He leaves to treasure his memory, daughter, Yolanda Porter; grandchildren, Dominique Williams-Bankhead, Michael Porter, Mikea Porter, and Makya Porter; great-grandchildren, Cordia Bankhead III and Caiden Bankhead; brother, Wade Woodford, Jr. (Mary), sisters, Clotilia Turner (Dennis) and Bernita Woodford, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
