Dechelle “Dee Dee” Evans Howard, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend, peacefully entered into eternal rest on May 25, 2025, at the age of 58.
Born on March 17, 1967 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dechelle was the beloved daughter of the late Mildred Mae McCrory-Evans. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, where she was deeply rooted in her faith and known for her unwavering commitment as a servant of God.
On June 26, 1997, Dechelle married the love of her life, Aaron Howard. Their enduring union was blessed with their son, Michael Shane Howard who in turn brought immeasurable joy to Dechelle’s life with the birth of her two beloved grandchildren, Deven and Marie.
Affectionately known as “Dee Dee,” she was a woman of many beautiful contrasts—sweet and sour, but always more sweet than not. Her warmth, humor, strength, and sass made her unforgettable. Dee Dee found joy in life’s simple pleasures: cooking for loved ones, singing her heart out, and enjoying a friendly game of chance. Her love for Michael Jackson was unmatched—just try telling her otherwise.
Dechelle’s vibrant spirit, generous heart, and zest for life touched everyone she encountered. Her passing was sudden and deeply felt, leaving family and friends in shock and sorrow at the loss of someone so full of life.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Evans, and her brother, Michael Evans. Dechelle leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through her husband, Aaron Howard; her son, Michael Shane Howard (Tonee); and her grandchildren, Deven and Marie. She is also survived by her sisters, Brenda Evans and Latanya Slaughter; her brothers, Perry Freeman and Tyrone Evans; as well as her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, lots of cousins and other relatives, and friends.
Dechelle “Dee Dee” Evans Howard will be remembered for the joy she brought, the love she gave, and the spirit that will live on in all who knew her.
