Debra Elaine “Debby” Sanders was born Indianapolis, Indiana on April 24, 1954 to Robert E. Sanders and Marie Miller. “Debby was baptized as a baby according to the rites of the Roman Catholic Church.
Debby attended and graduated from Saints Peter and Paul Elementary School and St. Mary Academy High School, Indy. Debby furthered her education by attending Indiana Business College also in Indy. Debby was previously employed at the Westin Hotel, downtown Indy, several temporary agencies, her first job was working for Standard Grocery Stores OTB Horse Racing, Stout’s Shoe Store, John Brooks & Associates Law Office and most recently Indianapolis Power and Light Company for twenty years where she retired in 2017.
Debby loved sewing, fashion, fun times with her SMA Girls, trips to the casino, music concerts, cookouts, entertaining all in her presence and engaging with younger people with whom she always made it a point to share her wisdom. Some of the same younger people with whom she babysat on numerous occasions.
Debby attended several Catholic churches throughout her lifetime, those being St. Mary Church, Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral and most recently St. Rita Catholic Church, which at the time of her earthly departure she was a member. At St. Rita Debby was an active member with the Monday Morning Crew and Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Debby’s volunteer spirit showed bright during her St. Vincent de Paul client visits.
Debra Elaine Sanders departed this life at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 14 days. Debby was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ruby and Lorraine, one brother, Wade Satterfield, sister-in-law, Myrtle J. Satterfield and her maternal grandmother, Gertrude (“Daisy”) Petrie, who raised Debby from the age of 8 months old.
Debby leaves to cherish her memory one son, Keenan V. Sanders, who was the sparkle in her eyes and her devoted and constant caregiver; godchildren, Justin X. Wills and Camaron M. Jackson, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
