David Andrew Green was born on January 7, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Douglas and Annie Jeter Green. Having been reared on the West side of the city and in the Haughville community, he attended School #63 and Crispus Attucks High School.
Later in life, David enlisted to serve in the United States Marine Corps. After completing his tour of duty, he earned an Honorable Discharge for his meritous service.
David was employed as a factory worker. He also channeled his skills and energies in the field of construction.
“Uncle”, or “Uncle Sonny”, as he was affectionately known, enjoyed listening to Rhythm and Blues, or often times on Sundays, he would have Gospel music blaring through the house. “Uncle” liked to keep up to date with sports statistics, especially basketball, and his favorite team was, the Golden State Warriors.
“Uncle” liked to take drives to his brother’s, Edward, Sr., visiting him and his wife, Mary, talking about old times and such. He loved seeing the cites of the city.
David Andrew Green passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, surrounded by family at the tender age of ninety-two years three months and twenty-three days. He leaves behind a legacy of love and is deeply missed by his brother, Edward D. (Mary) Green, Sr.; special nieces, Stephanie and Corisha Tibbs, who cared for him abundantly; special friend/uncle, Victor Robinson, and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and friends.
Though we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life he lived. David is now reunited in peace with his parents, Douglas and Annie Green; brothers, Joe and Ruben, and sisters, Florence Anna, and Charlotte.
