DARIUS MAYE Obituary

Darius DeLon Maye, lovingly known to family and friends as Dare, BabyBear, DJ, Rucker, and Goose — but most importantly "Daddy" to his beloved daughter Kensli Gene Maye — passed away on April 17, 2026, at the age of 36 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on September 1, 1989, in Indianapolis, where he built a life full of laughter, love, and unforgettable moments.

Darius was the son of Donna Marie Maye and the late Willie James Jackson. He was also preceded in death by his cousin, Janet L. Schaffer, who was much more than family by blood — she was his Ainee and a mother to him in every way that mattered — and by his best friend, Mitch, who held a special place in his life.

Family & Bonds

He was a devoted brother to Damont Maye Nickson, Baron McCullough, Stanford Jackson (Amber), Carla Hubbard (Tone), Mario Jackson, and Raymond Jackson (Jackie). Darius held a deep and special connection with his cousin Bridgett Hobbs, known as "Bridge," who was truly like a sister to him. He also shared a lifelong bond with Edward "Moody" Rogers (Alecia); the two men were just a week apart in age and grew up like twin brothers, with Moody loving and supporting Darius throughout his life. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving Aunt Karen Maye; uncles Kevin Maye and Gary Maye; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Personality & Memories

Darius was full of life, humor, and personality. He never met a stranger and had a natural gift for making people feel comfortable, welcome, and seen. His smile lit up every room, and his presence brought energy wherever he went. Known for his sense of humor, he kept people laughing — often leaving out just enough detail to make his jokes and stories even more believable. One unforgettable story from his childhood tells of a time at Grassy Creek Elementary when he told his teacher that his dog had "eaten a man" in the backyard. Concerned, the school contacted home — only to later discover that Darius had left out one key detail: it was all a joke. That was Darius — funny, creative, and always bringing joy to others. He was also a protector, fiercely loyal to his family and always standing strong for those he loved.

His Greatest Joy

The greatest joy of Darius' life came in 2019 with the birth of his beloved daughter, Kensli Gene Maye. She was his heart, his motivation, and his reason. He loved and adored her deeply, and being her father meant everything to him.

Education & Passion

Darius attended Carrie's Daycare, Grassy Creek Elementary School, Building Blocks Academy, and Bishop Chatard High School. During his time at Bishop Chatard, he played football and ran track. In true Darius fashion, he "lost his mind" when they won the State Championship. He was very competitive — his love for the game began at age six, playing for Municipal Gardens. He was a proud New England Patriots fan and also enjoyed attending Indiana Pacers games.

Work & Dedication

A skilled barber, Darius attended Kaye's Beauty and Barber College and earned his barber license. He had a true passion for cutting hair and dreamed of one day owning a mobile barber shop, bringing his talent directly to the community. Darius believed in hard work and was employed across a range of organizations, including Pepsi, Tyson, Five Guys, the Indianapolis Zoo, Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Carson Cutz & Landscaping, and the Harding Group. He showed up with consistency and dedication — because one thing about Darius, he never liked being late.

Faith & Community

Rooted in faith, Darius grew up in Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and stayed connected through his brother's Tycoon community — attending classes, live events, and morning prayer calls. He valued connection, laughter, and loyalty, and lived in a way that reminded everyone to cherish the people you love.
