Clara McCullough, a devoted mother, grandmother, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born in Bonita, Louisiana, on November 20, 1940, to Alice Harris and Willie LaPool, Clara spent her early childhood surrounded by family and Southern roots before moving to Indianapolis as a young girl. She was lovingly raised by her stepmother, Magnolia LaPool, with whom she maintained a lifelong bond.
In 1969, Clara married the love of her life, United States Army veteran Leroy McCullough. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and commitment, lasting until Leroy’s passing. Clara dedicated over 30 years of service as a surgical technician at the medical center, known for her steady hands and compassionate heart.
A faithful and active member of Purpose of Life Church, Clara lived out her faith through acts of service, quiet strength, and generosity of spirit. Her life was a reflection of love in action. After retiring, she continued to serve others by nurturing young children in the church’s childcare center.
Clara was preceded in death by her beloved son, Tony Black. She is survived by her devoted son, Richard Black (Rochelle), who lovingly cared for her over the past decade; her grandchildren: Christopher Grant, Marcus Black-Clark, Kiana Porter-Isom, Tiffany Black, Jasmyne Dennard, Toniya Black, and Jordan Jones; her daughter-in-love, LaToy Jones; and her stepdaughter Janeen Thomas. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren and extended family who will continue to honor her legacy.
Clara’s life was marked by resilience, kindness, and an unshakable devotion to her family and faith. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
