CHARLES EDWARD WRIGHT

Charles Edward Wright age 70, referred to as “Papi” passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025.  Born on December 16, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee to James A. Wright and Katie M. Wright, Charles was full of love, laughter and dedication to his family and friends.

Charles had eight siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, and six sibling, Dorothy, Mae Florence, Rachel Pearl, Earleen, Shirley Ann, and James Jr. Charles accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of First Baptist Church North Indianapolis.

Charles attended School #43 and #44 and Broad Ripple High School.  After High School, Charles married his high school sweetheart Debra Stewart. After he married, he enlisted in the Army National Guard. Where served as a soldier for 1438 Transportation Unit. Charles served in the Gulf War. He was a dedicated soldier and served 22 years in the Army National Guard.

Charles became Prince Hall Freemasonry and joined C.R. Richardson #69 where he was devoted member. He enjoyed being with his Masonic family. Charles had a big heart and was always willing to help anyone.

Charles enjoyed traveling with his family and friends.  He also was a great bowler and horseshoe player. He enjoyed watching football and basketball in his free time.

Charles worked and retired at MSD Pike Township school with 23 years of service. Charles was devoted employee of the township. Charles also put in twenty-nine years of service at UPS prior to his death.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory of his loving wife, Debra Stewart Wright; loving daughter, Shanyel Wright; two granddaughters, Azari and Aziya Wright who were the loves of his life; brothers, Willie Ed Wright and William A. Wright (Martha); sister-in-law, Bessie Manning (George); brother-in-law, Raymond Steward (Debbie); two Godsons, Robert Bentley Jr. and Cameron Bentley; and host nieces and nephews and family and friends.
