Charles Anthony Guynn (1948-2024)
An Incredible life dedicated to God, Family, and Community.

Charles Guynn, 76, of Indianapolis, Indiana, died on March 15, 2024. He was born on January 20, 1948, to Robert and Mary Guynn. Charlie (as his family called him) would not be the only child for long as he later became the eldest of 14 siblings. He was always destined to be a leader. Charlie attended elementary and middle school at St. Rita School, and subsequently graduated from Bishop Chatard High School. Charlie was a lifelong learner, attending Vincennes University, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and Martin University. Education was very important to Charlie, as he knew furthering his education would best help him serve his family and his community.

Charlie was first and foremost a family man. He was always a loving and dedicated brother, and when his father passed away in 1971, he took the role and responsibility as the family patriarch very seriously. Charlie and his wife Mary went to primary school together and were childhood sweethearts. They were married April 12, 1969. Charlie and Mary have 3 daughters, Deena Guynn, Robin Allen (Jeff Allen), and Charla Afoa (Brian Afoa). Charlie loved his wife and daughters with his whole heart. Charlie was also a very proud grandfather to his grandchildren. Nubyan, Myelon, Lamar, Dalton, Lucus, Taylor, William, Robert and Samara were all adored beyond measure by their grandfather.

Charlie played an incredibly important role in the lives of his extended family and made sure they knew he loved them very much. His siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins were always on his heart and mind. He generously shared his love with sage advice, steadfast guidance and legendary parties.

Charlie's work allowed him to touch the lives of countless people in Indianapolis and all over the world. He taught Science and coached basketball at St. Rita School. While coaching he led his team to 4 CYO championships. He worked closely with Charles Williams for Indiana Black Expo (IBE), serving as treasurer for IBE. In addition, he partnered with IBE chapters all over the state for the Economic Development Corporation helping Hoosiers with housing. He also oversaw security for IBE events for many years. Charlie also partnered with local law enforcement to provide diversity trainings. In addition to all of this, Charlie owned his own security company, CG Security. This security company was primarily run out of the Hyatt Hotel in Downtown Indianapolis. Charlie also served as the national secretary of the Knights of Peter Claver. Charlie was the recipient of many awards highlighting his service to the community, including the Spirit of Service Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service awarded by the Archdiocese.

Charlie loved golf, music and the occasional cigar. He loved to laugh and make the people around him laugh too. Charlie wanted to see the people around him succeed and helped them in countless ways to become better versions of themselves. Charlie was a beacon for his family and his community. His influence has been felt worldwide. If we are meant to leave this world better than we found it, Charles Guynn did that beyond measure.

Charlie's family would like to thank everyone for celebrating his incredible life with us.
