Calvin B. Smith was born on November 13, 1954, in Martinez, California, to the late L.C. Smith and Ethel Denson.
Calvin completed his primary and secondary education in California. After graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country with dedication and discipline.
In 1985, Calvin relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he established deep roots and meaningful connections. Known as a jack of all trades, he worked as a Correctional Officer, truck driver, and a thrifty craftsman who could fix just about anything.
Calvin was a devoted member of Joshua Baptist Church, where he faithfully served and remained a member until his passing.
A man with a generous heart, Calvin enjoyed volunteering at local food pantries and helping those in need. In his spare time, he loved fishing, cooking, working as a personal mechanic for his children, and taking on challenges as an adventurous tree removal specialist.
On March 14, 2026, at the age of 71, Calvin departed this earthly life to be with his Heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.C. Smith and Ethel Denson-Summers.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Calvin B. Smith II (Gia), Jacquel A. Watson, Dominique D. Elizondo-Smith (Mark), Jasmine L. Elizondo De Anda (Oscar), and Quinterro H. Elizondo-Smith; adored grandchildren: Lilly Anna Watson, TaiSean Elizondo-Waters, Neyamaiah Elizondo-Waters, Lisa Marie Watson, Delilah Smith, Calvin Smith III, Norion Elizondo-Braster, Tenancio Elizondo-Braster, and Penelope-Luz De Anda; and beloved siblings: Charles Summers, Detra Hart, Timothy Smith, Sheryl Denise Walton, and Ann Irvin—along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Calvin will be remembered for his kind spirit, hardworking hands, unwavering faith, and the love he poured into his family and community.
