Betty Jean (Courtney) Coleman sunrise began on April 2, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Frank Courtney and Mary (Patterson) Courtney who preceded her in death.
Betty received Rites of Christian Passage at St. Rita Catholic Church at an early Age.
Betty’s desire to attain a quality education was achieved by her attending IPS School #37, then on to Arsenal Technical High School, then on to Indiana University at Bloomington where she received her BA in Education and continued onto receive a MA from University of Illinois. Betty also pledged AKA sorority and remained active until she was no longer able to physically participate. She remained life-long friends with her Soros.
Betty in 1963 gave birth to twin girls Kimberly and Karin Ellis.
Betty in 1964 she began her career in Education where she began teaching math for the Chicago Public Schools System. Betty retired after thirty-seven years of dedicated service.
Betty learned Calligraphy writing, enjoyed playing cards of all kinds, loved playing Pokeno with her family, she was a proficient Square Dancer, Travel Agent, traveling and was a wonderful cook.
Betty was involved and in love with her family participating and hosting family meetings, family camping trips and family dinners. Betty, also was also very involved with her grandchildren who gave her great joy, laughs.
On February 28, 1992, Betty united in Holy Matrimony with her life’s partner and soul mate, Clarence Coleman who she cherished and shared her deepest love.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Courtney, brothers, Jerry, Paul, Michal and Frank Jr. Courtney and daughter, Karin Ellis and her grandson Joshua Jordan.
