Bernice Ford Posey was born February 7, 1928, in Oakfield, Georgia. “Sister”, as her loved ones called her, was the first girl and the third child born to the late Raymond Ford and Ceolia Seymore Ford.
Bernice accepted Christ early in life at St. James Baptist Church in Oakfield, Georgia. It was here where she also began her primary education. As a child, her family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where they lived for several years. However, in 1943, Bernice and her family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, and this became their permanent residence.
Bernice was united in holy matrimony to Vester Posey, Sr. for 58 years. To this union three children were born, daughters Iva Jean and Mary, and son, Vester, Jr. Bernice was a dedicated employee of St. Vincent Hospital for 23 years.
Bernice was a member of Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church for many years where her cousin was the presiding pastor, the late Reverend Charles Will Harris. Bernice loved her church. She also enjoyed dining out, shopping, and most of all spending time with her family.
Bernice departed this earthly life on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 15 days. We are grateful for Zionsville Meadows Long Term Care Facility where Bernice spent the last 13 years of her life.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Ford, Sr. and Ceolia Seymore Ford Mitchell; husband, Vester Posey, Sr.; two children, Iva Jean Posey Taylor and Vester Posey, Jr.; stepfather, Jimmie Mitchell; four brothers, Raymond Ford, Jr., Will Lee Ford, George Ford and Melvin Mitchell; one sister, Hattie M. Ford Neville, and one grandchild, Emauri B. Harrison.

Carter (Milwaukee, WI), Amanda Davis, Nettie Lamb (Racine, WI) and Betty J. Mitchell Beaven; one brother, Willie J. (Maxine) Mitchell; one brother-in-!aw, Henry “Pig” Posey; one sister-in-law, Mahalia Posey, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Praise The Lord. Now I am going on home to rest because I am tired. This has been a long journey. It wasn’t sweet all the time but that’s alright,
because I am going home to see my Jesus.
Amen!
