Bennie Gorham, Jr. was born at 6:20 p.m. on August 18,1944 to the union of Bennie Gorham, Sr. and Lubertha Carr Gorham of Ferriday, Louisiana. He received his early education at Sevier Rosenwald School (Sept. 1950 – May 1957) followed by Sevier High School (Sept.1957 – May 1961) in Ferriday, Louisiana. Later in life he obtained various other certificates and training from Louisiana State University.
He professed his faith in Christ. He kept his Bible by his bed. At family gathers, he sometimes offered to say grace and express his thankfulness to God.
He married his high school sweetheart, Ruthie M. Hinkston, and three children were born to this union: Bennie Gorham III, Ruthie Y. Gorham and Larekka Z. Gorham.
Later in life, he married Lottie M. Webb, and three children were born to this union: Jarrett B. Gorham, Candius R. Gorham and Brandon N. Gorham.
Bennie held various jobs. He was employed as a Police Officer for the Ferriday Police Department (Ferriday, LA), Parts Counterman at Dekeyzer Freeman Chevrolet (Ferriday, LA), Parts Counterman at Montgomery Pontiac & Buick Co. (Ferriday, LA), Deputy Sheriff Officer for the Concordia Parish Sheriff Department (Vidalia, LA), Parts Counterman at Sharp’s Auto Supply (Clayton, LA), Security Guard at Uni-Guard Security Co. (Kansas City, MO), School Bus Driver for the Independence School District (Independence, MO), PCR Management, Co. (Indianapolis, IN) where he packaged all types of bearings for General Motors Saturn cars, Merchandise Stocker at Walmart part-time (Indianapolis, IN), and School Bus Driver for MSD Pike Township (Indianapolis, IN) where he worked from 1998 until his retirement in 2010.
Bennie loved reading, grilling at cookouts, talking about politics, telling his family and friends jokes showcasing his fun spirit, and the Indianapolis Colts.
Bennie departed this earthly life on December 15, 2025, at the age of eighty-one years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie Gorham, Sr. and Lubertha C. Gorham, his daughter, Amy Swanson, his grandson, Aydan A. Gorham-Almeida, his brothers, Barron Eugene Gorham, Henry Noble Gorham, and James Benjamin Gorham, and his sisters, Janice “Janee” Gorham, Brenda Gorham Williams, Kawanis Gorham Ceasar and Annie Beatrice Gorham.
Bennie Gorham, Jr. leaves to cherish his loving memories: his six children, Bennie Gorham, III, Ruthie Y. Gorham, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Larekka Z. G. McDougal (Shenard) of Jackson, Mississippi, Jarrett B. Gorham, Sr. (Markesa) of Atlanta, Georgia, Candius R. Gorham-Almeida (Gary) of Baytown, Texas and Brandon N. Gorham of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren, Zeketra S. Gorham, Cynthia Y. Gorham Woods (Martin), Jackie D. Gorham Morris (Immanuel), Jarett B. Gorham, Jr., M.J. Swanson, Zyruth G. Hilliard, Kennedi D. Gorham, Noah G. Almeida, Cyanne P. Almeida, and Gary O. Almeida; three great-grandchildren, Akielah Edwards, Kyle Edwards, Jr., and Justus Edwards; four siblings, Robert L. Gorham (Juanita, Significant Other) of Columbus, Georgia, Irving M. Gorham (Mary) of Gary, Indiana, Joe N. Gorham (Dorothy) and Scarlett M. Owens, both of Monroe, Louisiana; sister-in- law, Janice R. Gorham of Indianapolis, Indiana; dearest and best friend, Mrs. Maxine Doyle of Indianapolis, Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
