ANNIE SADLER

Annie Lucille Sadler, the daughter of the late Willie Henry Oldham, Sr. and Annie Mae White Oldham, was born on January 24, 1932, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Annie moved to Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of five years.

Annie was the second child and had four brothers and five sisters. The oldest brother, Willie Henry Oldham, Jr., died at the age of five before their move to Indianapolis, Indiana. Her brothers, Charles, Harry and Robert Oldham, and her sisters, Dorothy Miller, Sylvia Oldham and June Oldham, also preceded her in death; and         her surviving sisters, Shirley Russell and Norma Florence, reside in Indianapolis.

Annie professed her hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age. Annie attended Elder W. Diggs School #42 and Crispus Attucks High School, where she received her G.E.D. in November of 1983.

Annie was married to Clarence Sadler who preceded her in death. Although no children were conceived from this union, she had a very close relationship with her nephew, Anthony Miller, whom she often referred to as her son. Annie also had several Godchildren that she adored as well, Dawn Sandoe-Henshaw, Elizabeth, Laura, Oliver, Fatterson and Dylan, who used to come over and take care of her lawn and the maintenance around the house.

Annie was employed by Goodwill Industries, and left that position to care for her mother who had a stroke. After her mom passed, she went on to work for Bond and Valri Sandoe for thirty  years as a House Manager. After retirement, she maintained a close relationship with the Sandoes, whom she considered family.

Annie suffered a stroke in 2022. During her recovery/rehab she was cared for by her sister, Norma. While in rehab she suffered a heart attack and was eventually moved into the nursing home for 24-hour care. Dawn was a big support for her healthcare and one of her frequent visitors during her stay in the nursing home. Her sister Shirley took on the responsibility of being her POA and the primary person responsible for her physical, medical, and financial needs.  Annie did not like the nursing home food. Every time Shirley came to visit, her first statement was, "What did you bring me?" She had to    always have her four things: dinner, Pepsi, a small saltshaker, and a box of Kleenex. She was known around the nursing home as the Pepsi Lady.

Annie loved her dogs and, if she had her way, they would have lived in the nursing home with her. Annie was the after-school caregiver to her sisters' and brothers' children for many years. She was also the caregiver for her mother after she had a stroke. In a nutshell, Annie loved her family, and family to her was not about blood—it was who showed her love.

Annie, better known as "Sis" to her loved ones, departed this life on July 20, 2026, at 3:15 p.m. at the age of 94 years.

She leaves to cherish in her memory two sisters, Shirley Russell (Donald) and Norma Florence, lots of nieces and nephews,grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins, the Sandoe family, and a host of relatives and friends.
