Amonte D. Howard was born July 18, 2006, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended IPS Schools and Ben Davis Adult Education Center. After the passing of Amonte’s father, Estern Howard Jr., he was raised by his grandparents Estern Howard Sr. and LaTonya Jackson who raised him as their own son.
Amontewas well known for his love for family, who in turn lavished him with as much love as they could. If you said I love you, his response was always “Love you more”.
Amonte loved having family dinners and would often request a family get together and his favorite foods -- chicken alfredo and fried chicken drumettes or holiday food where he could mix the dressing, sweet potatoes, and macaroni and cheese. There are so many good memories of spending time with Amonte at family dinners, barbeques, Christmas gatherings, and family gatherings. He and his “Paw Paw”, Estern Sr., were especially close. Amonte kept up with his every move and cherished the time they spent talking and bonding together.
Amonte professed a belief in Jesus Christ when he was 9 years old and was baptized at First Samuel Church (W)holistic Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Peter Fenton. He had gone to see the movie “The War Room” with the church. When the movie ended, he said he wanted to be baptized and serve God. Amonte also liked having talks with Bishop Fenton.
Although Amonte had his challenges, he had a yearning to be a better person and to have a closer relationship with God. He would have periods of time in his life where he would grab hold of a song and listen to it over and over. Over the years, his favorites were “Walk With Me Lord”, “There’s A Leak in This Old Building”, “Sending Up My Timber”, “All Night”, and the most recent in his last few weeks with us, “I Feel the Fire Burning”.
Amonte departed this life on April 22, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at his bedside. He was preceded in death by his father, Estern Howard Jr.; uncle, Montrez Cushinberry; and grandfathers Louis Howard and James R. Cushinberry Sr.
Words cannot express how much Amonte will be missed. Among those who will cherish his memories forever are his grandparents who served as his parents, Estern Howard, Sr. (Tara), and LaTonya Jackson (Ladarren); great-grandparents, Linda K. Durgan (Carl) and Louise Howard; and his sister, Amiyah Howard. In addition, he will forever be in the hearts of his “TT’s” who loved him dearly, as well as a host of uncles, cousins, friends, church family and his bonus family. We will especially miss the sweet sound of him telling us, “Love you more”.
