ALLEN EWING Obituary

Allen DeWayne Ewing was born on March 28, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Allen J. Ewing Jr. (deceased) and Emma Jean Ewing.  Allen was the fourth of seven children.

Allen was baptized at Holy Angels Catholic Church in 1956 and attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School.  He graduated from Cardinal Ritter High School in 1972.

Upon graduation, Allen enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps where he served for two years and was honorably discharged. Allen was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as Rifle Marksman and a Good Conduct Medal.  Allen’s last duty assignment was El Toro, California.

Allen fell in love with the west coast and remained in California for most of his adult life.  In 1982 Allen moved to San Diego and obtained employment at St. Rita’s Catholic School and later worked for Manufactures Life Insurance and the Rand Corporation of America. Upon moving back to Indianapolis, he served as a statistician for high school sports and was last employed at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Allen was an excellent basketball player and loved shooting hoops in his hometown growing up and across the country wherever there was a basketball court.  Allen, like ESPN's broadcaster Chris Berman, was gifted with sports knowledge and trivia.  This earned him the nickname "The Swami."

Allen was also very committed to his community and was a long-time volunteer for the Circle City Classic and St. Vincent DePaul.

On September 30, 1999 Allen was united in Holy Matrimony to Sandra Faye Lomax.  Their union was blessed with a blended family - Victoria D. Banks and Gilbert F. Lomax Ill. Allen and Sandy were also blessed with daughter, Sierra Virginia Ewing.

On Tuesday, November 23, 2021, Allen DeWayne Ewing transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home at the age of 67.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allen J. Ewing Jr. and his brother, Darrell R. Martin.
