Ralph Lynwood Greene was the last of 10 children born to Lawrence Greene and Lillian Lewis Greene in Washington, D.C., on September 18, 1944.

He moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1954 and graduated from Shortridge High School before joining the Air Force. Upon being discharged, he studied at the State University of New York - Plattsburgh and worked in several places, including Western Electric, before landing at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), an agency in the United States Department of Defense.

Outside of work, Ralph  loved sporting competitions and was an avid sports fan.  He especially loved basketball and competed in several basketball leagues over the years.  He also enjoyed bowling and participated in many leagues winning several trophies and league tournaments.

Ralph professed his faith in the Lord at a young age and was a member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church.  He loved singing and was a member of several gospel groups, including the St. John’s Men’s Chorus, Jordanaires, Gospel Music Workshop of America, and Upon this Rock.  He also sang and performed on different occasions at DFAS over the years.

Ralph had a creative and artistic flair and could draw very well.  He also loved cars and attended car shows whenever he could.  Ralph took great pride in ensuring every inch of his cars and rims were pristine! Most of all, however, he had a passion for fashion. Ralph stayed dapper wearing the latest styles in clothes and shoes. From formal wear to suits, business outfits to athleisure wear, Ralph always looked good and knew where to find a good bargain!

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Lorenzo Greene and Lillian Lewis Greene; siblings, Ruth Dawson, June Lambert, and Donald Greene; and son-in-law, Mark H. Davis.

He is survived by his children Keith Lofton (Wanda), NaTosha Davis and their siblings, Chris Lofton and Tiffany Braud; grandchildren, Amaya Davis, Lexie Grace Lofton, and Josiah Lofton; siblings, Lawrence Alfred Greene, Arthur Frederick Greene, Everett Francis Greene, Phyllis Lillian Wyatt, Ronald Lee Greene, and Rodney Lamont Greene; loving friend, Mary Peete; a host of nieces and nephews, co-workers, and many other family and friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Ralph was a great co-worker. We spoke often and talked about sports and fashion. He always put me in the the sales in the area. He was always dressed very well and treated people with respect. We only worked together for almost two years, but he truly made an impact on me. Rest Easy Ralph.

My condolences to Mary and the whole family of Mr. Ralph Greene. I worked with Ralph (dad) for 12 years and just became his supervisor for the last 3. We have so many memories from work and even when I went to cut the grass for him lol. He will be truly missed by so many. He was a classy man and very particular about keeping his car cleaned and waxed. I will truly miss my work dad and he will be forever in my heart. I will cherish All of the memories we shared especially in disbursing and the bank when I worked there. ❤ Kimberly Jones

I was taken aback to learn of Ralph's passing. He was always smiling and dressed well. Now he is in the Jordanaire Choir being directed in Heaven by our leader Burnetta. Sing well "Peach". My sympathy and prayers for God's uplifting and comfort go out to the remaining family members. With my love,

To Ralph's family, my prayers and condolences are with you. Of course, we all know that Ralph was a very nice gentleman who treated people with respect, kindness, and love. He was a true Christian. He's already missing! He modeled for NAFE/Women In Networking at DFAS for many years and was a great asset to our organization, and we appreciated him so very much. Ralph was model-ready every day! Surely, he's now enjoying his life of celebration with the Lord. Blessings!

I would like to extend sincere condolences to Ralph's family and loved ones. Ralph worked on my team at DFAS some years ago. He was truly a well composed, good-natured and very suave dressed man. I never saw him upset even when he didn't agree with all of the changes the team was going through. Ralph always found a reason to smile. We often talked his roles in the play, "Upon this Rock" at Easter. Ralph loved singing and serving others. Heaven's choir has gained another Baritone. May he rest peace. Life Well Lived.

I had known Ralph for over 20 years and I always enjoyed running into him in the hallways where we would talk about the Pacers, Colts and life in general. You will be missed Mr. Greene and I truly appreciate getting to know you and having you as a great friend.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ralph Greene but encouraged that he is now with the LORD. We worked together on the same team a few years ago. Ralph was always a dapper gentleman and was such a joy to be around. We both enjoyed talking about cars and he always asked how my family was. God bless Ralph’s family and friends in this difficult time. Love in Christ from the Moore Family.
