Wilbert V. Mathews was the sixth child of Fay LeeAnn Hamilton Mathews and George Anthony Mathews, who both preceded him in death.

Wilbert confessed his hope in Christ at an early age.

Wilbert received his primary education at Indianapolis Public School #87 and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School.

Wilbert was employed at several local companies as a cook, supervisor and security officer.

Wilbert was loved by everyone that knew him.  He loved family gatherings. Wilbert shared his knowledge to many and was a father figure to his nieces, nephews, and stepchildren. 

Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles Mathews and Derewood Mathews; and sister, Rita Woods.

Wilbert leaves to cherish his memories his beloved sister, Antoinette R. Mathews; brothers, Davell S. Mathews, and Gilbert V. Mathews (his twin brother); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends

Wilbert Mathews, will be truly missed, He was truly good to my mother Robin Wilder and her children Eboni Wilder, Charles Wilder and Maurice Wilder-May. I never got to tell him thank you for helping my mother out for all these years. You will be missed and never forgotten.

Uncle Wilbert, you will be truly missed. You were the kind of person that helped out anyone and everyone. I thank you for always being there for me and my daughters whenever we needed you. From the time that I was a little girl you were always my favorite Uncle. Rest in Peace Uncle Wilbert. Love you!
