A Brief Sketch of Life

Sherlinda Lynn Horace was born June 10, 1975, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the union of Pastor Emeritus Bennie A. Shobe, Jr. and Sherrill Shobe.   Sherlinda accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Carter Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.

Sherlinda received primary and secondary education through the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township, graduating from North Central High School in 1993.  During her time at North Central High School, she served as treasurer of the Black Student Union and as a Student Council Representative. She was also a charter member of the North Central Northernaires Gospel Choir. Sherlinda went on to become a first-generation college graduate, graduating from Prairie View A&M University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

During her time at the university, Sherlinda met the love of her life, Jimmie Horace, and later the two were married in 1998.  To this union, two beautiful children were born, Alyssa and Caitlynn Horace.

Sherlinda began her career working as a Lab Technician and Quality Analyst for Lab Support Incorporated in 1998.   In 2002, Sherlinda accepted a position as Sensory Scientist at Sensient Flavors, LLC.  She was later promoted to Senior Beverage Technologist.   In 2017, Sherlinda embarked upon a career at Eli Lilly and Company, specifically with the Clinical Trial Sample Management and Master Label Quality Approval Team.  She was also a member of the Institute of Food Technology and Women in Food & Fragrances.

Sherlinda enjoyed traveling, singing, reading, gardening, spending time with family and friends, and cooking.   Her family cherished her most famous  dishes- including Corn Pudding, Zucchini Bread, and Eggplant Parmesan.  She   especially enjoyed singing with her sisters as the “Daughters of Eden”.  She was a devoted member of Eden Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as Director of the Church Nursery, a Primary Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer, Matron, Executive Sound Technician, and Choir Director.  Sherlinda solidified the true meaning of leadership, dedication, and consistency within her church.  She served God and her church family with love and true devotion.

Sherlinda was known for her stern, yet loving personality especially when it was time to "get things done."  This was displayed when it came to her children and their education.  She spent time working with them on their studies and was a  devoted "Girl Scout", "Descant," and "Counterpoint" mom; never missing a show choir performance!  Sherlinda was one that could be trusted, was dependable, and fair.  Her strength was shown as she battled at the end, but never complained and never missed a beat.  In spite of all that she endured in her final hours, she instructed her family to, "SING",  leaving an endless impression to " Make a joyful noise unto the Lord."

Sherlinda Lynn Horace departed life on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 4:10pm.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Pastor Bennie A. Shobe, Sr., Clara L. Shobe, Jaqueline Shobe, James Dye, and Dorothy Dye.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Jimmie L. Horace; daughters, Alyssa and Caitlynn Horace; parents, Pastor Emeritus Bennie A. Shobe Jr. and Sherrill Shobe; sisters, LaKisha (Michael Sr.) Montgomery, Natalie Shobe, and Pastor Adrienne (Dewayne) Overton; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Dear Benny, Sherill and Family: No amount of words can express the pain that you are going through. My heart breaks for you and your family because I share your pain after losing my son so recently and suddenly. And, even though: “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.” praying for your family.
