Johnny Lee Lewis was born January 3, 1943 to Willie Lewis Sr. and Lucinda Lewis in Beulah, Mississippi. While growing up in Beulah, Johnny attended the Beulah Public School system. Johnny moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1965 and began working at Methodist Hospital. In 1973, Johnny began working at Citizen’s Gas Coke & Utility where he retired after over 30 years.

Johnny accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in the early 80’s while attending a revival crusade in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. Johnny became a member of Southern Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Willie E. Pittman in which he served as a deacon in the church. In 1984, he became a member of Pleasant Union United Baptist Church under the leadership of his brother Rev. Larry Lewis followed by Ezra Turley and Rev. Howard Buford.

Johnny’s hobbies included going to Sunday school, church and singing in the male chorus. One of his favorite scriptures was Psalm 122:1: I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. He also enjoyed watching football and basketball.

Johnny Lee Lewis departed this life on January 9, 2021 at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents Willie  Lewis Sr. and Lucinda Lewis, siblings Larry Lewis, Henry Coffin, Sylvester Lewis, Lucy Lewis, Cleo Wells, Willie Lewis Jr., John L. Lewis, and Cleveland Anderson.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a special friend Terry Black; God-daughter, Brittany Black; his siblings Roosevelt (Eddie) Lewis, L.V. Lewis, Charlene Lewis and Mertle (Dewayne)  Barlett; an aunt Marie Marshall; favorite niece Mikeli E. Lewis-Wilson and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
