Karen was born in Indianapolis Indiana on January 17, 1961. Karen gave her life to Christ at a young age and attended New Zion Church at her senior living community.

Karen graduated from Arlington High School in 1979. Karen briefly studied Journalism after high school. 

Karen was employed with Aramark at Butler University for 15 years. Karen had a love for the struggling students, so much so that she would make sure they did not have to worry about food even if she had to pay out of her pocket. “She would say college is hard enough; you shouldn’t have to worry about food.” Karen also helped multiple family and friends gain employment through Aramark @ Butler University.

Karen had a way with people, no matter how long or short of time you knew her, Karen left you with a smile and a story to be able to share with others.

Karen had a love for music; however, Luther Vandross was most definitely her favorite artist.

Karen was married to Douglas Harrell Sr. and they had 2 sons and 1 daughter.  

Karen Denise Douglas-Harrell departed this life on December 29, 2020.She was preceded in death by sister Marsha Douglas and Brother Allen Douglas

Karen is survived by Sons Douglas Harrell Jr. (Farrah), David Harrell, Daughter Kimberly Harrell-Owens, 8 grandchildren and 1 on the way. “Nana”, what the grandkids called her, loved all 8 of her grandkids dearly; Tramel Harrell, Aniah Owens, Alayah Owens, Robert Harrell, Dannica Harrell, A’davia Harrell, Bryce Harrell, David Harrell Jr. Brothers Dyrl Douglas, Byron Douglas, Robert A. Douglas, and Gary Douglas (Pamela) Parents Robert E. Douglas and Betty Jo Douglas and a host of Nieces and Nephews and family and friends.
