Mrs. Bernice Lyles Carlisle, affectionately called “Mom, Mama, Grandmother, Granny and Grandma,” was an extraordinarily, loving and independent woman.  She was born in Forest, Mississippi, and was the daughter of the late Aaron and Parlee Roberts Lyles.

As a child, she was a unique individual with amazing commitment and focus. As a young lady, she relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana seeking better job opportunities and self-enrichment.

She accepted Christ at Christ Missionary Baptist Church.  Through God’s blessings, Mrs. Carlisle united in Holy Matrimony  with John Carlisle, Jr. Their union was blessed with  four children. She instilled Proverbs 3: 5,6 in each of her children. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”  She also passed this same scripture on to her grandchildren.

She was a resourceful, reliable, dependable and loving woman who valued the benefits of hard work, doing her best, and respecting others. She successfully retired after 50 years of working and relocated to Georgia to live with her daughter.

Mrs. Carlisle was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Parlee Roberts Lyles; her son, Don Cortez Carlisle; siblings, James Walter Lyles, George Marcus Lyles, Pauline Lyles  Walden, Annie Lois Lyles Griffen, and O'gene Lyles Curry

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Valerie Carlisle-Titsworth (Jerome) of Snellville, Georgia and Janice Wilson(Mark) of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sons Christopher Wright, and Darren Carlisle of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Leah Titsworth, Justin Carlisle, Kennadee Carlisle, Keyarah Carlisle, Kaniya Carlisle, Darrin Carlisle, Jr., Steven Carlisle, Raeia Carlisle, Don Carlisle, Mya Carlisle, Margo Brown;  Derrick Cooper, Ian Wright, Sterling Wright and  Austin Wright; great-grandchildren, Donoven Carlisle, Micah Carlisle, Vrielle Wright, Patrick Williams, Navona Brown, Jr., Janala Jackson, Derri’yah Cooper, Derriyana Cooper, Da’mauri Carlisle, Jayden Carlisle , and a host of relatives and friends.

I’m Free
by Shannon Lee Moseley

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.
I’m following the path God has chosen for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call;
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I’ve found now peace at the end of the day.

If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
Oh yes, these things, I too will l miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
look for the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much;
good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.

Perhaps my time seems all too brief;
don’t lengthen your time with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and peace to thee,
God wanted me now – He set me free.
