Archie Lee McClain was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and brother born October 2, 1941, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to the late Heres McClain and lristia Banks Broomfield. Archie was the oldest of eleven children and was raised by his grandmother, the late O.D. Genous Banks. After graduating from high school, he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana.
Archie was united in Holy Matrimony to Ruthie Mae Taylor, on April 7, 1963. Of this union four children were born. He worked for United Technologies Carrier for 43 years as a team leader and union steward (United Steelworkers of America Local 1999) until he retired in 2013.
He enjoyed spending time cooking for his family and friends, gardening, and relaxing on his front porch. He also loved watching baseball, football, and other sports and was always willing to place a bet on his favorite teams.
Archie Lee McClain departed this life on Monday, November 16, 2020, at the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthie Mae McClain; son, Mark Anthony McClain; his parents, Heres McClain and Iristia Banks Broomfield; his grandmother, O.D Genous Banks; and three siblings, Loraine Banks, Donald Broomfield and Ernest Broomfield.
Survivors to cherish his memory include his loving children, Alexis (Carolyn) McClain, Melvin (Angela) McClain, and Colleen McClain Mpofu all of Indiana; his siblings, Joe (Joan) Broomfield, Lonnie (Priscilla) Broomfield, Robert (Connie) Broomfield, David Broomfield, Ronald Broomfield, Carl (Sabrina) Broomfield, and Betty (Raymond) Lewis. He also leaves four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends to carry on his legacy of love.
