Mrs. Margie R. Evans (Huston) was born June 8, 1945 in Panola County; Batesville, Mississippi to the late Lloyd and Sarah Huston. In her early years Margie moved to Arkansas and received her education in the Dewitt Public School System. Margie was a very devoted daughter and helped with the care of her younger siblings.
Margie accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and united with the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Ethel, Arkansas under the leadership of Rev. Robert Vanderbelt. Margie sung in the choir and in a group with her cousins called “True Vine” where they traveled and sang at local churches.
Margie relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in the 1960’s and begin a career at General Hospital, now known as Sydney & Lois Eskenazi where worked as a Nurse’s Aid. She then went on to work for Midtown Community Health Center as a Case Manager where she retired from after 40 years of service in 2008.
Margie was joined in Holy Matrimony to love of her life, Joseph I. Evans, on December 4, 1971. They shared forty-eight years of marital bliss. They were blessed with three children, Anisa, Tamara, and Meishara, whom she loved very dearly. Margie loved her family very and had a very special love for her granddaughters.
In 1977 Margie united with the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana under the leadership of Pastor David Lee, Sr. She remained a faithful and dedicated member until the time of her passing. She served on several auxiliaries which include: President of the Busy Bees, president of the Pastor’s Aid, Church of Tomorrow, The Baby Contest, May Day, Pastor & Wife’s Anniversary Dinners and other Dinners. She was also a volunteer for the church’s bi-monthly food pantry where she worked very diligently. Margie was the epitome of a servant and would do anything in the house of the Lord.
Mrs. Margie Evans departed this life on Monday, August 10, 2020 at the age of 75 years and 2 months and 2 days. She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd T. Huston, Sr.; mother, Sarah Huston; brother, Lloyd T. Huston, Jr.; sister, Leadora Huston-Smith; brother, John Henry Huston and brother, Tony Huston.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her husband Joseph I. Evans; daughters, Anisa Tucker (Bernard); Tamara Lee (Charles) and Meishara Evans; three brothers, John O. Huston of Indianapolis, Indiana; Mitchell Huston (Elanor) and Dale Huston (Jessie) both of St. Louis, Missouri; four granddaughters, Chloe, Camara, Carleigh and Caylee; one sister-in-law, Lafae Huston; a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives, her church family and friends.
