Lula Goldie Elizabeth Bridgeforth was born on November 22, 1926 in Elkton, Tennessee.  She was the third of eight children born to Samuel and Sula Mae (Blair) Bridgeforth.

Lula attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1944.

Lula found work in Lake Forest, Illinois with the Huber family, taking care of their children, Peggy, Susie and Peter, whom she adored.  Lula  returned to Indianapolis and in 1964 began working as a Clerk with the United States Postal Service, the place from which she retired.

In retirement, Lula enjoyed volunteering at the College Avenue Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library which allowed her to be around something she loved a lot…books.  Lula loved to read and she loved to write.  She especially loved books about the black experience.

Lula loved her family and was known as the family historian and no Bridgeforth Family Reunion was complete without a report from Lula on Bridgeforth family history.

In her day, Lula was quite the epicurean, introducing her family to such gourmet dishes as green bean casserole and smoked salmon with cream cheese and capers.  She was also quite stylish…making a fashion statement in the colorful maxi dress she wore to many family gatherings.

Lula had a flair for decorating/interior design, and if you ever visited her home, the first thing you noticed was how beautifully and tastefully decorated it was.  She took great pride in her home.

Lula, affectionately known as Goldilocksto her nieces and nephews, departed this life on Thursday, July 3, 2020 at the age of 93 years, 7 months, and 11 days.  She is already sorely missed.

Lula, who survived her parents and her siblings, Myevelyn, Teao, Zeola, Anna, John Marshall, Greta, and Alta, is survived by the Huber children, Peggy, Susie, and Peter, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, a sister-in-law, brother-in-law, friends and her faithful caregiver, Martine who took care of her and truly made a difference in Lula’s life.  Lula truly enjoyed the weekly pampering (a manicure and pedicure on Mondays) she  received from  Martine.
