Willie Mae Evans Martin was born on November 18, 1929 in Newton, Mississippi to the late Marshall Evans and Effie Lee Watts Evans.  She was the second child of nine born to this union

Willie Mae received her education through the Mississippi School System in Walnut Grove School.  After high school she relocated to New Orleans then later to Columbus, Georgia where she met Lincoln Martin.  They were joined in holy matrimony January 12, 1963.  Lincoln was in the Armed Forces and they traveled the states and abroad to Germany.  Upon leaving the Armed Forces and returning to the states they made Indianapolis, Indiana their home. In 2000 they relocated to Carthage, Mississippi.

Willie Mae was an avid traveler and enjoyed visiting family, friends and family reunions. They loved having others travel with them, especially their friend, Princess.

As a young girl she accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Lena Baptist Church in Walnut Grove, Mississippi. While traveling abroad she studied and actively served as a Jehovah Witness for many years.

Mae as she affectionately liked to be called, but most of her family called her Willie Mae, loved to cook and entertain family and friends with her southern flare (her pound cake was the bomb).

In December 2017, Mae returned to live in Indianapolis, Indiana with her sister Effie Jean.  She began to fellowship with Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed the youth singing and playing the drums.

Willie Mae departed this earthly life on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the age of 90 years 6 months and 10 days.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters; Girtrue Stribbling, Angie Boulden and Gladys Randall; two brothers, Jason Evans and Rev Ennis Evans; and her beloved husband, Lincoln Martin.

She leaves to cherish her memories son, Glenn R Evans (Norma); stepdaughters, Belinda Taylor and Pamela(Roy) Flowers; stepsons, Lincoln Martin and Dwayne Martin; aunt, Eloise Evans; brother, Marshall Evans; sisters, Carrie Evans and Effie Jean Massie; step-grandson, Carlton Alexander; great- niece/daughter, Dasha Griffin, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
