Julia Lee Davis was born in Phenix City, Alabama,  on August 3, 1932.  She was the daughter of Prather and Adelle (Golden)   Davis.  When  Julia  was two years of age, her mother passed.   Julia, twin brother, John Lee, and sisters, Ruth Mae and Maggie, were then raised by their maternal grandparents, Mose and Suzy Golden.  She and her siblings grew up in a loving home with aunts, Ossie Lee, Fannie Mae, and Louise, and uncles, Willie and Joe. 

Her uncle, Joe, and his family (wife, Sadie and daughters, Barbara and Erma) moved to Indianapolis, Indiana.  Whenever he returned to visit Phenix City, he often invited family members to move to Indianapolis.  In 1952, Julia moved to Indianapolis, also.  She found employment at Progress Laundry and worked there faithfully for over forty years prior to her retirement.  She became a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.

Mama”, as she was called by her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren, loved to cook for her family and friends.  She also loved to sew by hand. She made beautiful quits.

Julia Lee Davis departed this earthly life on March 14, 2020, at the age of eighty-seven years seven months and twelve days.  At the time of Julia’s passing, she was the eldest living grandchild of Mose and Suzy.  Julia was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, son David, and grandson Joshua.

Those left to forever cherish her memory include: daughters, Yvette and Denise; sons, Andre and Dale (Shon-Tina); grandchildren, Terricka, Lamont, Aisha, Shandolyn, Bryan, Andrea, DeAndre, Krys-Tina, and Dale, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Ayanna, Desmond, Deayanna, Jaylah, Dodrianna, Omariona, Bellezamor, Omahyra, Dymond, William, Jamair, Kyle, Jaden, Marmar, Power, King, and Teana; great-great granddaughter, Aamiah; eldest nephew, Delane Thomas (Lula Mae); eldest niece,  Judy Davis (Fred); special nephew, Rev. Percival Woods (Saundra); eldest first-cousins, Lorene Miles, Annie Howard, Erma Daniel (Emmitt), Vera Unseld, a host of other relatives, loved ones,  friends and her beloved Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church family.
