Velma K. Hoskins was born to Rev. Forrie and Ernestine Brody Radford in Hopkinsville Kentucky.  She came to Indianapolis at a young age and lived at 162 West Douglas Street. She professed a belief in Christ and she was baptized.

Velma  grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended the historic Oscar McCullough School #5.  She graduated from George Washington High School.  She enjoyed growing up with her siblings, Lonnie, George, and Corliss, prior to starting her family.

Velma  was an active caregiver. She was employed by various employers but devoted her life to raising her daughters, Cheryl and Ellisa, and later assisted them with her grandchildren. She also would babysit for other family members.  Velma played a significant role in the lives of her parents in their twilight years. She dearly cared for them.

Velma  enjoyed reading, writing, chronicling family events,  dancing and joking with others. Her bible was filled with notes and thoughts, and she often jotted down as she read.

Velma departed this earthly life on November 9, 2019.  She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Cheryl and Ellisa M. Hoskins; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one sister, Corliss (Derk) White; two brothers, Lonnie    Radford and George (Cindy) Radford, a host of nephews and nieces, family and friends.
