Deorry L. Higgins was born June 16, 1960 to Katie and Wilfred Higgins in Chicago, Illinois at Cook County Hospital.

Deorry went to  Chicago Public Schools and graduated from John Marshall High School.

In 1981, Deorry was joined in holy matrimony to Thelma Cooper. From that union, they had two children Gwendolyn Marie Higgins and Deanell Lee Higgins in 1986. Later, Deorry was in a relationship with Benita Brown in which his youngest daughter, Tanisha Denise Brown was born.

As a child, Deorry loved school and sports. Deorry was an athlete and played basketball for most of his school days. Deorry won many trophies. Among them was “The Most Valuable Player “ award. He also loved movies and attending concerts. Deorry  was very liked and loved.

In 1989, Deorry moved to Indianapolis and married Evelyn Cox. He confessed his hope in Christ in 1988 and was a member of 22nd Street Church of God In Christ, Prince of Peace Church of God In Christ and Emmanuel Christian Fellowship Center Church of God In Christ. He was employed at IU Medical for 29 years. Deorry was hard working and loved family. He is known for saying “How you doing Sweetheart?”

Deorry  was a meticulous dresser, a caring, sharing, and giving person. Deorry  was a great example of a father, brother, and friend.     

Deorry leaves to cherish his memory his three children, Gwendolyn M. Higgins, Dearrell L. Higgins, Tanisha D. Brown;  one sister Linda Higgins; one brother, Cecil Higgins, eight grandchildren, one aunt, Alice Garrett, two nephews, one niece and a host of cousins and friends and special friend, Mattie Bacon.
