Mrs. Theresa Estella Walker Lewis was born November 5, 1920, the youngest of nine siblings and the daughter of Mary Brooks Walker and Levi Walker. She attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School where she became an Alumnus of Crispus Attucks High School Class of 1938.

She joined Mt. Paran Missionary Baptist Church at the tender age of ten and on Thanksgiving Day was baptized with her father and older sister Elizabeth Price by the late Rev. C. Henry Bell. She was formerly a member of the T.E.L. Bible Sunday School Class and Secretary and Treasurer the Mt. Paran Flower Club. She was also a helper in the nursery.  She was a member of Mt. Paran Missionary Baptist Church under six pastors during her 75-year membership.  She later joined New Era in 2017 under Pastor Clarence Moore until her death.

On July 12, 1939 God guided her into the union of marriage with Thomas Lewis and to this union three children were born: Sherron Lewis Reeves, Thomas William Lewis (deceased) and Rhonda Theresa Lewis. Theresa  and Thomas were married 65 wonderful years before Thomas preceded her in death on

April 04, 2004.

Growing up, Theresa was very independent using her skills of doing hair and sewing to earn money towards helping her family. Theresa  was a homemaker and a caregiver to the young and old. She was a loving and devoted mother, a caring and generous grandmother, a good-spirited and nourishing great-grandmother and a wonderful-and dedicated friend to many. 'Tess' was known for her warm and generous heart, her strong love for God, family and friends, and her inner strength towards her true convictions. She was famous for her 'Goodie Bags' prepared on all birthdays and holidays where no one was forgotten.

Theresa was preceded in death by her mother and father, six sisters, two brothers, her husband and son.

She leaves behind to cherish her wonderful memories: two daughters, Sherron Lewis Reeves and Rhonda Theresa Lewis, five grandchildren Pam Rogers (Katie), Lisa Martin (Jerry), Michael Lewis, Tina Reeves and Natalie Wilson (Malik), ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Also, special prayers go to her extended family that truly touched her heart: Gregory Smith (godson), Webster Peterson, Jacqunette Murray, Kathy Adams, Traci Anderson, Mary Long, and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews and true friends.
