William H. Woods, Jr.  was born on May 15, 1931, to William H. Woods, Sr. and Orena Pennington Woods in   Indianapolis, Indiana.  He was the fourth child of ten.  He attended Jackson Central Grade School in Arcadia, Indiana and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School, where he enjoyed being on the basketball team.  He served in the military branch of the U. S. Air Force defending our country in the Korean War, earned received     medals through the Korean Service and United Nations Service and was honorably discharged.

From a previous marriage, there were four children born, and in 1971 he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Deloris A. Bradley in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Two children were born from this union.  As of April 10, 2019, they would have celebrated 48 years of marriage.  Providing as a husband and a father, he was employed at Indianapolis Public Schools System and Eli Lilly & Company, where he worked as a janitor.  In wanting better for his family, he was able to gain  employment at The Chrysler Electric Plant, where he worked in production for 33 years. In lieu of the plant closing and after much commitment and dedication, William was able to retire in 1988.  He was one that believed in never missing work whether sick or tired and would always still press his way.

He accepted Christ at an early age.  After being a long time member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, William made the choice to go be with his son Bishop Victor T. Woods at New Unity Church. As a faithful member, William served as a Deacon for a  couple of years until his health could no longer allow him to serve.  With saying that, he became Deacon Emeritus.

Some of William’s hobbies and interests included fishing, looking at and talking basketball because he always thought he was the best jump shooter in the world.  He loved taking care of his yard, his  vehicles and loved joking with his wife/family. One of his famous sayings was, “Deloris what is it now”, or “You should save for a rainy day.

After surviving different aspects of cancers, sadly his health began to decline. On April 6, 2019, at 12:25 a.m. the Lord called William from labor to reward.  He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Vernon Woods, Georgia Anderson,  Janet Woods, Margo “Terri” Woods and a   daughter Cheryl Woods.

William leaves to carry on his legacy his wife, Deloris A. Woods; daughters, Brenda Majors, Linda Woods and Yolanda Y. Woods; sons, Erroll “Doug” Woods, Victor T. Woods (Kourtnee); sisters,  Phyllis Girton (John), Joyce Poindexter, Patricia “Patty” Woods; brothers, Steve Woods, Michael Woods (Thelma); five    grand-children, eight great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers in–law; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and church family
