Venice Marie Johnston was born on January 3, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to William Luther and Lexsie Marie Moore Wolfe.  She was the younger of two daughters born to this loving union.

Venice graduated from Schenley High School in 1945.  Then she lived in Chicago, Illinois, for a short period of time.  She briefly returned to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.

During her many trips to Indianapolis, Indiana to visit her grandparents and many aunts and uncles, she met Douglass Johnston, II, who she married in June of 1949.  Ironically, it was her uncle, Shelly Moore Jr., who introduced her to her husband, a Butler University colleague.

At an early age in life, Venice professed a distinct love and need for Christ in her life.  She attended other churches but found her home at Holy Angels Catholic Church.  She became a long-time member of the Holy Angels “Elites”, who were very instrumental in the many fundraising events for the church.

Venice Johnston, having been baptized in accordance with the Holy Rites of the Roman Catholic Church, truly enjoyed Holy Angels Mass.  She also enjoyed Holy Angels Festivities, sewing, music, movies, traveling, decorating and she loved spending time with family and friends.  Venice  was a sweet, kind and loving person who never met a stranger.  She was a “mother” to all and embraced the humanity of all.

Venice Johnston departed this life on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the age of eighty-six years.  She passed peacefully in her own home surrounded by those she loved as they loved her.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Lexsie and William Wolfe; sister, Bernice Spence and her granddaughter, Brandy N. Pierce.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband of over sixty-six years, Douglass Johnston, II,; three children, Douglass F. Johnston, III,  (Darlene), Lynne M. Pierce (Randall) and Billie D. Johnston (Jeffrey); four grandchildren, Tracie L. Smith (Jerrell), Brandon D. Adkisson, Crystal Johnston and Douglass Johnston, IV; great granddaughter, Tracie L. Pierce; Kirth Roach, a very supportive brother-in-law, a host of grand and great-grandchildren, and her extended family.
