Mr. Roosevelt Wafford, the son of James Eustus and Zephra Daniels Wafford, was born October 29, 1933, in Marianna, Arkansas.  He was one of ten children born to this union.  His parents, five sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

Roosevelt received his primary and secondary education in the Arkansas Public School System and relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1955.

Roosevelt was employed as a truck driver at Chrysler Corporation and retired after forty years of service.  Previously he had worked at Link Belt.

On September 2, 1965, Roosevelt was united in Holy Matrimony to Earlene Johnson and they were the parents of two sons.  On May 16, 2014, his wife, Earlene Wafford, preceded him in death,

Reared in a Christian home, Roosevelt accepted Christ at an early age and joined Fredonia Missionary Baptist Church in Moro, Arkansas.  After moving to Indianapolis, he united with the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where he wore many hats.  He was a member of Usher Board No. 2 as well the Brotherhood and Male Chorus and served on the Trustee Board where he held the position as Treasurer of the Benevolent Fund. Roosevelt served faithfully until his and his wife’s health began to fail.

Gentle and quiet by nature, one might say “Jack”, as he was affectionately called, walked softly and carried a big stick in that he earned the respect of his fellow man by the manner in which he carried himself, without ever having to raise his voice and his word was his bond.  A great provider, he loved his family and had been a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He touched the lives of those too numerous to mention and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Roosevelt Wafford departed this life on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at the age of eighty-one years, nine months and eleven days.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, James Lee Wilson, Jr. and Kerry (Julie) Wafford; three grandchildren, Kellie, Julius and Nancy; five great grandchildren, Darius, Brooklyn, Julius, Nena and Naimen; one great-great grandson; one brother, James (Barbara) Wafford II, North Little Rock Arkansas; one sister, Emily (Vertis) Short, Chicago, Illinois; brother-in-law, Harold Frazier, Sr., North Little Rock, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Ruth Johnson, Mocksville, North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, his through thick and thin best friend, George Quarles, other relatives, his St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church family and many friends.

To the Family of Deacon Roosevelt "Jack" Wafford, you are in my Thoughts and Prayers in the Loss of Deacon Wafford! It was through his late wife Sister Earlene Wafford that I got to know him. He was a Very Quiet Man with A Great Faith in God! Sorry that I will not be able to attend the Services due to my work schedule. My name is Erika Reeves from Little Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and a part of the Union District{especially when Sister Earlene Wafford was a VERY Active Part}. I am still apart of the Union District Ushers as an Officer.
