Barbara A. Jones was born June 1, 1937 in Leeds, Alabama.  At the age of ten years, Indianapolis, Indiana became her home.

Barbara professed a belief in Christ and joined the former Second Christian Church, now Light of the World Christian Church.  Over the years she was faithful in service as a member of the Usher Board.

Barbara completed her primary education in the Indianapolis public schools and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1955.  Having completed her studies in Business, in later years, she owned and operated a house keeping business for over twenty-five years.

For over twenty years, Barbara worked at RCA (Radio Corporation of America) until the company closed its Indianapolis operations.  She was later employed at the Chrysler Corporation Electrical Plant for eight years, where she was a member of the United Auto Workers Union.

Barbara was joined in Holy Matrimony to Jesse Jones on August 7, 1986.  Their marriage spanned over twenty-eight years and together they shared many cherished moments.

Barbara stated, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”.  Always impeccably attired and accessorized, she was both well-liked and respected by many.  She was a loving wife, and as a mother, it was her joy to participate in her son’s activities.  Barbara was a den mother during James’ scouting years and their home was a welcome place for all the neighborhood children.  Gardening and cooking were her pastimes. Barbara also enjoyed the friendships she shared as a member of The Tawatsi Club.

On January 23, 2015, in the early morning God wrapped His loving arms around our beloved Barbara A. Jones and took her where there is neither sickness nor pain.  She was preceded in death by her parents, who lovingly raised her Aaron and Tonnie Harrell and her father, John Johnson.

Her memory will be held in the hearts of her husband, Jesse O. Jones; her son, James H. Adams, Jr.; Jesse’s children, Quincy (Jay) Garrett, Christopher (Crystal) Jones, Eris (Khadisha) and Quinton McRath and five grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives, church members  and many friends.
