Annette Deloise Lofton, the daughter of Fred Wilson and Charlie Mai Poindexter Wilson, was born September 8, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Annette graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1970.  She attended Indiana University in Bloomington; where she received her Bachelor degree in Education and would later go on to receive her Master’s degree in Social Work.

Annette accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis.  While at Bethany, she was active in many different ministries.  She was a member of the youth choir, Vacation Bible School, Bible Training Unit, and hospitality ministry.  She would later become the church clerk and church secretary for many years.  After becoming a member of Oasis of Hope Baptist Church Annette became a part of the hospitality ministry.

She was united in marriage to Steve L. Lofton.  To their union were born two daughters, Alsje Devise and Stephanie Camille.

Annette had a lengthy career as a public servant.  She held various government positions at the city and state level.  The largest part of Annette’s career was spent with the Children’s Bureau of Indianapolis, where she supported various programs.  Programs closest to her heart included The Family Support Center, Homes for Black Children, and the Vivian Smith Teen parenting program.

Annette was an avid reader and extraordinary baker.  Best known for her melt-in-your mouth yeast rolls, Annette always had a baked goody ready for you.  Annette enjoyed spending time with her “besties”, the Golden Girls: Getsy, Monica, Denise, and Angie. Annette and the Golden Girls were childhood friends.  This friendship has spanned many years and special memories such as long standing annual vacations and the birth of children and grandchildren.  It was a friendship that was a support system that has stood the test of time.

Annette Deloise Lofton went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the age of sixty-two years.  Her parents, two brothers, and daughter, Alsje Devise preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted daughter, Stephanie Camille Lofton; sister, Charlene Crenshaw; aunt, Edith Poindexter; stepdaughter, Yalanda Ford (Harold); granddaughter, Saundria Ford; niece, Luciana Crenshaw; two nephews, John Crenshaw (Sherry) and Freddie Crenshaw; very devoted great, great-nephew, A’ni Crenshaw; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
